The Renfe and Wayra Trenlab accelerator chooses four winning startups for its first edition among the 240 registered from 27 countries.
In the end; however, the four startups selected were all based in Spain.
The four startups will be joining the Trenlab hub on Gran via, among others, to promote Renfe’s digital transformation while strengthening its position in the railway sector.
A jury evaluated how the four startups could solve the group’s business challenges, their potential for growth, scalability, and the differentiating value they bring to the market by incorporating new approaches, business models, products and / or services, Spanish media reported this week.
The Trenlab open call presented three major business challenges to the entrepreneurial community:
- Digital Mobility
- Digitalization of Operations
- Logistics on Demand
Here are the four startups that made the first Trenlab acceleration program cut:
Limmat Group (Segovia): Digitalization of Operations
Limmat Group is dedicated to the development of intelligent solutions for the improvement of the efficiency in the maintenance and operation of large infrastructures. It uses Big Data, IoT and Artificial Intelligence.
Limmat Group is committed to the development of technological products such as IMA-Systems, which is a maintenance management system for large infrastructure, Through mobile application that improves the quality, reliability, efficiency and performance of the systems.
iomob (Barcelona): Digital Mobility
iomob provides the infrastructure for the Internet of mobility. It uses blockchain to allow public transport systems and mobility providers to collaborate and compete efficiently.
Its goal is to offer users a much improved end-to-end transport solution, providing a unified intermodal experience and hiding the underlying complexity of the blockchain economy and transparent tokenization.
Zeleros (Valencia): Logistics On Demand
Zeleros develops a hyperloop transport method to connect cities and logistics hubs at speeds of up to 1000km / h with reduced energy costs.
The founders won the 2015 Best Design award in the competition organized by SpaceX (Elon Musk) in the United States.
Zeleros is the only Spanish company, one of the three European companies and of the six worldwide, developing a hyperloop system. Its differential is the optimization of vehicle technologies, reducing the cost of maintenance, operation and infrastructure construction (around 30%), resulting in a more scalable and competitive system for long distances.
nixi1 (Barcelona): Digital Mobility
nixi1 has a chatbot system that allows you to book tourist services through apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook Messenger.
nixi1 is a disruptive startup that’s aiming to change the chatbot rules. Its mission is to build an awesome user database and community that uses its chatbot to revolutionize the industry of travel search engines.
The program will have a prize of up to 50,000 euros in financing for each of the winners, to which is added the possibility of Renfe or Wayra investing in the startup, which is in addition to the six-month acceleration program with access to Wayra’s network of spaces for entrepreneurs that are distributed throughout a dozen countries.
The winners will also contribute to incorporate methodology, knowledge and entrepreneurial culture to the Renfe Group, as well as to identify and promote innovation and internal talent.
Trenlab’s first open call captured 240 projects in search of a technological revolution ranging from traveler experience to commercial planning, interaction with customers and real-time logistics management, among many others.
Among the 240 candidates, 65 came from 27 countries abroad, including the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, India, France, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina while 73% of the total projects came from Spain.
All the projects presented to this first call correspond to innovative and disruptive initiatives, which sought to respond to the three major challenges launched from Trenlab to the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- 43% of the startups presented answered the challenge of Digital Mobility, which seeks to reinvent the travel experience of Renfe’s customers
- 37% to Digitalization of Operations with ideas to adapt the logistics supply of the company flexibly to the demand for freight
- 19% to Logistics on Demand to maximize the possibilities of digital technologies and power manage operations in real time.
Renfe’s new accelerator will be developed over the next two years and seeks to promote the digital transformation of the company and strengthen its position in the sector.
Trenlab was launched under an open formula of collaboration in the development of disruptive ideas that add new value in the mobility and transport market as a central part of Renfe’s activities.
